Celebrate the Opt-Out Public Option!

Hello Bloggers! I know I've been missing in action, and will continue to be for a while, but I just had to post a big celebratory THANK YOU to that unexpected news from "speak softly and carry a big stick" Senator Harry Reid of Nevada.

Wow, what a surprise. I was convinced he was going to kiss conservative ass on this one.

I am thrilled after his announcement today that he will be including a reasonable version of the public option in the Senate's version of health care reform. Though I don't have enough details yet, it's still FANTASTIC news in so many ways. I was very worried Reid was going to sell the party out on this one.

To be really honest, I'm not that concerned about the opt-out feature. Why? I see no problem with allowing the dumb-asses to die-off in the dumb-ass states. That may sound cruel and insensitive, but it's true. To be really blunt, if the shit-heads want to opt-out, I say LET THEM!

It may just lead to fewer shit-heads in this world, or a few less dumb-ass Republicans. Go ahead Alabama, Georgia, Alaska, South Carolina and the rest. OPT-OUT ALL YOU WANT PEOPLE! When the private companies dump your ass, IT'S YOUR FUNERAL!

I realize I don't have all the facts yet, but I still wanted to RAVE about it. We need to celebrate one more fantastic step closer to victory. We don't want to count our chickens, but we do want to celebrate the unexpected and glorious milestones that move us forward.

I'm more hopeful today than I've been in a long time. Go Harry and Nancy! Let's all keep the pressure on and pray for more progress.

Monday's Political Rave - Michael

welcome back Michael, After posting a really pissy piece this morning full of despair, What a difference a few hours makes in Washington! I am on cloud nine right now!! I have a little bit of fear until NJ election is over, God help our state if we elect a rethug in November! Our state desperately needs the PO! We will be hearing the lies from the right in full force these next weeks. The first video up from John Borasshole is on my blog. The guy should be tarred and feathered! lol

Yes, it's good news indeed. Better a public option with an opt-out that can get the votes to pass, than a public option with no opt-out that can't.

God help our state if we elect a rethug in November! Our state desperately needs the PO!

An interesting question is how exactly a state would make the decision to opt out. I doubt it would be the governor's decision alone. Perhaps the legislature would have to vote on it. I have even heard suggestions that a referendum might be required.

Nope, it's not Harry Reid who's been kissing conservative ass by trying to sell out any and every principle for Snowe's one lousy Republican vote to feed his bipartisanship fetish. It's some other guy who's been doing that.

I think it's The Blue Dogs ass that has been kissed. My Rep. is one and I voted for him. SHRIEK. It's a way of trying to get the 60 votes they need. A compromise yes, isn't that what life is all about, but the fat lady isn't clearing her throat just yet.

Nice to see you publishing, Michael.

The Quisling from Connecticut - home of the insurance industry - immediately declared he would filibuster any bill with any sort of public option.

And, now we have a PO in the House bill.

I-753 raises a good question as to how an opt-out would be decided.

Geroge W. Bush was probably the most partisan president this country has ever had, so I'm not too critical if Obama wants to be president of all Americans. The far-right hates him and will never yield. As for the center, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Have a good weekend. BJ

I sure can understand your position on not giving a rat's ass about the state's that want to opt-out.Unfortunately I live in Texas and have knew of this proposition and posted about it before it ever even became news...and knew that states like our's probably would have to deal with this problem...so of coarse my fantasy was to see it be PO across the nation...but I know there is too much money involved here and pay-off's as well...I'm no dummy.I would only hope that if Texan's get screwed on the opt-out deal and we get opt'd-out'd, that minorities across our state take to the street's and riot for a change, bust some head's,and some property...and believe me...we have alot of poor and minority population...and the 2nd largest population of the states. Is violence an answer you may say? Why not? ...violence is alway's a healthy alternative.

Thank You Sir..........

Well, that would certainly increase the demand for health-care services. Assuming that the public option works well in the states that have it, the opt-out states will come under pressure from their own people to opt back in.

Opting out in the first place might prove politically difficult. It's just depriving people of a choice that others have.

RC, pay no mind to Goatreamer$6.99. He's just the resident troll whose comments Michael sometimes lets through for giggles.

And so Goatreamer$6.99, who probably considers himself a patriot, is revealed instead as a secessionist would-be traitor.

Funny how it's mostly the right-wingers these days who fantasize about dividing the country.
