White House Blog Tells the Truth

Hello Bloggers! I may be a little "late to the game" as they say, but I just discovered the new official White House Blog and think it's brilliant. It may not be very thorough yet, but it has a great deal of potential. We need to encourage them to use it more.

I think it's so awesome I created a permanent link to it on the right margin of this blog. I encourage my fellow bloggers to do the same, since it seems to be a new and excellent source of factual information.

It's amazing the way the White House - using the blog - has decided to take on the lies being told every day on 24/7 nightmare channels like FOX "News." It is disputing some of the lies line by line (though it's obvious there are too many for the WH blog staff at this time), and filters the spin/lies from reality.

Let's hope one day they go ever further and start to counter the lies spewed daily by AM right-wing radio.

I recommend checking out the section that disputes Glenn Beck's lies related to the president's decision to travel to Copenhagen in his effort to win the Olympic Games for Chicago and the US. It's an amazing read. It's so good to see the White House defend the truth.

Visit Reality Check: Trying to Turn a Point of Pride into a Moment of Shame and see for yourself. Here is a taste of what the White House Blog offers:

RHETORIC: BECK SAID VANCOUVER LOST $1 BILLION WHEN IT "HAD THE OLYMPICS." Glenn Beck said, "Vancouver lost, how much was it? they lost a billion dollars when they had the Olympics." [Transcript, Glenn Beck Show, 9/29/09]

REALITY: VANCOUVER'S OLYMPICS WILL NOT TAKE PLACE UNTIL 2010. Vancouver will host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games from February 12 – 28, 2010 and March 12-21, 2010, respectively. [Vancouver2010.com, accessed 9/29/09]

RHETORIC: VALERIE JARRETT "WAS LAST SEEN WITH THE NEA." Beck's guest, FOX News contributor Pat Caddell, said, "[Obama] is going to go [to Copenhagen] with Valerie Jarrett who was last seen with the NEA pumping up their use of, you know, money." [Transcript, Glenn Beck Show, 9/29/09]

REALITY: VALERIE JARRETT WAS NOT ON THE NEA CONFERENCE CALL. Valerie Jarrett was not a participant in the August 10, 2009 United We Serve/NEA conference call.

It is a new and wonderful tool to help WE THE PEOPLE filter out all the corporate, ratings-based fake news crap that is clogging the public airwaves and cable systems. It is one more piece of a puzzle, which when solved will help us find our way out the maze of lies and noise pollution overwhelming our news and media today.

Let me be clear, I don't believe we need a White House news service that could lead to abuse, but I do think it's reasonable to have have an active White House Blog that goes to great lengths to publish the truth in response to all the lies of today. That is perfectly reasonable in my opinion.

Thanks for the tip and info. It seems to be a good way to find things before being filtered through the MSM.

Thanks Mike. Btw, I like your blog, so I'm posting a link on my blog list. I too am a sane Christian.

Thanks, Michael. I will put up the link on my blog.

One of the latest posts is an absurd statement by Bachmann about healthcare reform leading to young girls having abortions during their school day - without their parents' knowledge. There is just no end to this right-wing crap.

Sigh.

Isn't that nice? Unemployment is approaching double digits, the war in Afghanistan is going poorly, and our President is worried about what's being said about him on Fox News!

Regardless, let's look at some of the carping and whining:

RHETORIC: BECK SAID VANCOUVER LOST $1 BILLION WHEN IT "HAD THE OLYMPICS." Glenn Beck said, "Vancouver lost, how much was it? they lost a billion dollars when they had the Olympics." [Transcript, Glenn Beck Show, 9/29/09]

Yes, Beck was clearly in error about when the Vancouver Olympics will be held. However, his point about that city's financial problems as a result was nevertheless valid and relevant as it pertains to the question about Chicago getting the Olympics in 2016.

As the Vancouver Sun reported in January:

The City of Vancouver's liabilities to construction of the 2010 Olympic Athletes Village may cost it its favourable credit rating with Standard & Poor's, the rating agency said today.

Standard & Poor's, in a statement, said it has placed Vancouver's AA+ rating on creditwatch in light of revelations that the city may need to step in and finance the Olympic village's remaining construction.

"Depending on the scope of the city's financial obligation, we believe Vancouver's potential debt burden might not be consistent with the AA+ rating," Steven Ogilvie, director of public-finance ratings for Standard & Poor's office in Toronto, said in the statement.

In the statement, Ogilvie said the agency's concern is that without financing from the Olympic village project's main lender, Fortress Investment Group, Vancouver could be on the hook for up to $850 million and may have to borrow a large part of that to shore up the project's finance.

Fortress stopped advancing funds to the project in September in part because of cost overruns.

Closer to home, the New York Times reported last November:

I think what Beck is saying after everything is said and done Vancouver will loose $1billion on the 2010 Olympics. Boh I know you will not publish this because it goes against what you are saying.

GR - All I can respond with is LOL! Good luck with that POV dude. MB

No matter how flagrantly obvious it is that Beck doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, people like Goatreamer$6.99 will still find some convoluted way of defending what he said. If Beck announced that the Earth is flat, they'd twist reality around until they could convince themselves that in some sense he was right.

It is not my point of view, some additional facts that you left out with your one-liner.

Boh you forgot to mention that Vancouver has actually lost more than a billion so far, and will probably lose closer to $4 billion, which is really chump change to the Barrack O’Carter administration, and peanuts compared to what Chicago would have inflicted on its residents.

Michael Boh said...

GR, you don't know what you're talking about - as usual. Nobody knows what the losses are until AFTER the event takes place and all the money is counted. Stop repeating all the right-wing talking-points crap dude. It gets so tiring.

Michael: As you know I've had a little tete-a-tete with a wingnut. Doesn't it just wear you down how they spew those talking points and recite the propaganda of the Fox News crowd. Why is it they never research for themselves, which is so apparent? Pea-brains! BJ

BJ, I've decided we can't communicate with the far right anymore. I hate to say it but I think they've grown into a cult, and they're not going to evolve anytime soon. The "wingnuts" are now crazy, and I'm tired of dealing with them. They never listen anyway.

I don't know where it will all lead, but I for one have grown tired of trying to debate the closed-minded, brutal, fact-free bastards. I will probably write less and less on all blogs, and do everything possible to avoid debating the trouble-making trolls from the right. It's sad, but until they stop listening to the liars and evolve politically, they're not worth our efforts.

Finally, I do hope they start to think for themselves again, and end their recent cult-like behavior. If not, the liars will use their fear and our nation will suffer again like it did under Bush. We will all pay another huge price for their brainwashing, their lack of intellectual curiosity and political incompetence.

Michael: I came to see your RANT about the wingnut reax to the Nobel Peace Prize. I know all this stuff drives you bonkers. Hope you are just enjoying some downtime on the beach! Regroup! I’ll be checking on your blog. BJ P.S. I think you wrote that you were spending some time in a national park. Lucky you!
